Entry details 2023

ENTRY LIMITS AND PROCEDURES MOLESEY AMATEUR REGATTA 2023

PLEASE READ THESE PROCEDURES VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE MAKING YOUR ENTRIES. IT INCLUDES CHANGES FOR 2023. IN PARTICULAR, YOU ARE REMINDED THAT NO UNPAID ENTRIES CAN BE CONSIDERED OR ALLOWED FOR.

BY MAKING AN ENTRY YOU ARE CONFIRMING THAT YOU HAVE READ, UNDERSTOOD AND ACCEPT ALL THE FOLLOWING

  1. The Regatta will include a maximum of 140 races. This means that approx. 175 crews will be accepted.
  1. The minimum size for a viable event will be 4; within this any Senior event may then be subdivided into tiers. For the avoidance of doubt, a viable Masters event is defined as one where there are 4 or more crews spanning no more than 3 age-handicap letters. The only exceptions to this size rule will be a) Garrick doubles and b) any/all eights events, where it will be 2.

About half the events will be pre-allocated to either the morning or afternoon Division – see markers “a” and “p” on grid below; the other events will be placed to even up the Division numbers as much as possible. Doubling is permitted provided that the two events are not both am or both pm.; any doubling involving the events to be placed at the allocation stage will be accommodated if at all possible, provided such doubling is explicitly flagged at the time of entry. Any such doubling that is not so flagged will probably not be possible.

  1. Entries to any/all of the published categories will be received until there are 160 (unpaid ones cannot be received as they are by definition incomplete, and will therefore will be ignored). At this point BROE will be suspended for entries, and those received will be subdivided into Groups A and B.

Group A will include all those that are in viable events, and all these will be marked ACCEPTED on BROE. Group B will include those that are in events which at that point are too small to be viable.

  1. BROE will then be re-opened, and further paid entries matched against lists A and B in order of receipt. If an entry falls in list A (that is, it is to a viable event) it will immediately be marked ACCEPTED and added to list A. Otherwise it will go on list B; if this brings its event to a viable size all the entries for that event will be promoted to list A, and if not they will all stay in list B.

This process will go on until there are enough crews in list A to form about 145* races. At this point, regardless of the date and time, those in list B will all be marked REJECTED on BROE, and their entry fees returned. BROE will then be closed for entries. It is unlikely, but if at the nominal close of entries (12 noon on 8 July) the number of races formed from list A is fewer than 145*, a small number might be created out of the then-current list B crews.

  1. Any ACCEPTED crews then withdrawn will not be replaced; the number* mentioned in section 4 will be derived by reference to how close to Draw day (8 July) that part of the process takes place, in expectation of a certain number of withdrawals to arrive at the 140 target. Any such withdrawals before the draw is compiled will be refunded; as usual, this does not apply to any scratches made after the draw.
  1. Efforts will of course be made to contact the designated club representative(s) in the event of any problem with an entry before the draw, either side of and during the Regatta. However, if the designated individual(s) make themselves unavailable by not responding to e-mails and/or not returning ‘phone messages within a reasonable time, the Racing Secretary will proceed as seems most appropriate.

SPECIAL NOTES:-

MAR – PRIMARY EVENTS

The Regatta provisionally also offers Primary events for coxed fours, to be run under the BR Rules of Racing, with the extra rules and procedures set out RoR Appendix C.

The arrangements for these events are still very much a work in progress, and we CANNOT at this stage guarantee that they will go ahead.

You are therefore invited to enter, subject to the conditions listed below; payment is required for a valid entry, but if the events do not go ahead you will of course be refunded in full.

Please note carefully:-

  1. There will be two categories, Open and Mixed. Only Explore-type boats may be used. Crews must supply their own boats.
  2. The precise format of the events will be determined by the number of entries received in each class, but each crew will race at least twice, over 500m.
  3. Entries can only be made via BROE (the events are identifiable by the code ROW in the short name). Up to 8 entries will be accepted in total. Three entries are required for an event to go ahead. You should indicate if a Mixed crew is prepared to transfer to Open to be accepted.

In common with all other entrants, you are very strongly recommended to read the full entry information.

  1. Both entry cut-off and crews’ conduct on the day will be subject to precisely the same limits and rules as all other (non-Primary) crews. This includes a) no late entries b) reporting to the start in good time for races and c) observing the circulation. Crews will, similarly, be subject to disqualification and/or any other available penalty in the event of any offence against the Rules of Racing.

MAR – GARRICK DOUBLES

This is an open double scull event. The crew must contain one person who has a total of fewer than 100 ranking points across both disciplines at the time entries close. For the avoidance of doubt, this means that the person’s (Rowing PRI Max plus Sculling PRI Max) totals fewer than 100 on the day that entries close.

ENTRY LIMITS AND PROCEDURES MOLESEY JUNIOR REGATTA 2023

PLEASE READ THESE PROCEDURES VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE MAKING YOUR ENTRIES. IT INCLUDES CHANGES FOR 2023. IN PARTICULAR, AS USUAL, NO UNPAID ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR ANY REASON.

BY MAKING AN ENTRY YOU ARE CONFIRMING THAT YOU HAVE READ, UNDERSTOOD AND ACCEPT ALL THE FOLLOWING

  1. The Regatta will include a maximum of 140 races. This means that approx. 165 crews will be accepted.
  1. The usual 20 events will be offered, and 3 crews usually required for a viable event Any entries for a non-viable event will be offered a place in the next age group up provided this is consistent with BR Rules. Events will be subdivided above 8 entries.
  1. As usual, the three waves will include all of one O boat type and all of one W boat type, the precise order to be advised as part of the draw, and depending on the various numbers of crews across the six groups. Doubling is permitted, subject to 6. below. Trebling is not permitted under any circumstances.
  1. In the interests of fairness and the promotion of Junior competition, entries will not close before the published cut-off (12 noon on 8 July). However, also in the interests of fairness, no unpaid entries will be accepted into the draw. Further, a crew (especially a J13 one) should not be put in unless it is completely capable of going to the Start unaided and completing the course in a competent manner. Any crew judged by the Chief Umpire not to be up to this basic standard may well result in the club concerned having its MJR 2024 entry capped.
  1. A club may not enter more than 15 crews. If a club enters 10 or more, at least 40% of these must be 4x. For the avoidance of doubt, the respective totals are : min. 4 out of 10, min. 5 out of 11 or 12, min. 6 out of 13, 14 or 15. If at close of entries a club still has more than 15 crews listed, enough 2x and 1x crews will immediately be eliminated to bring the total to 15. The remaining crews will then not be immune to culling under para 6 (below) if numbers are still over capacity.
  1. As usual, if there is an over-subscription, those removed first will be the smaller boats where the crew is doubling in a larger boat.
  1. Efforts will of course be made to contact the designated club representative(s) in the event of any problem with an entry before the draw, either side of and during the Regatta. However, if the designated individual(s) make themselves unavailable by not responding to e-mails and/or not returning ‘phone messages within a reasonable time, the Racing Secretary will proceed as seems most appropriate .
